Prototype Tours

Friday evening, The Huckleberry Railroad in Flint has offered us an afterhours tour of the back shop at the Flint grounds of the railroad. Contact the convention by email to make special arrangements if your arrival will originate someplace other than the Lansing Convention site.

Saturday morning, we will pay a visit to the Steam Railroad Institute in Owosso and the Great Lakes Central in Durand. We will explore the museum reception building of the Institute and then examine the famous Pere Marquette 1225 steam locomotive. The group will then make its way to Durand, where we will be hosted by the Great Lakes Central at this local yard.

Sunday morning, the Adrian & Blissfield Railroad has offered to give us a learning experience at their Mason engine facility. They are going to make an engine and freight car available and will demonstrate for us how to string the air lines and do a pre-trip air test of the train brakes. No access to the engine house will be allowed. We will make this trip in groups of 20 so everyone participating has a chance to witness the demonstration.

1. All of these tours require that our convention participants arrive at the location at the pre-arranged times, and only visit the prearranged areas of the host’s facilities. We will be organizing car pools for the visits at the Ramada Inn convention site on the appropriate days.

2. An extra fare activity fee of $10 applies to all there of these visits. All proceeds will be donated to those organizations

3. You must register to participate in these events no later than Friday, October 5, 2018, one week before the start of the Lansing Lashup 2018 Convention.
