This generic HO, early diesel, layout, the East Lansing & Elsewhere RR (EL & E), fills a 12’x32′ basement room and is designed for continuous running through finished mountain and canyon scenery. Bridges are an important feature and include the “Diablo Canyon” bridge and a curved double track bridge. Spline roadbed construction is used to obtain beautiful curves and grades. A number of classic wood structure kits fill the landscape and are the center of lots of highly detailed mini scenes. Interestingly, women comprise a majority of the layout’s population. Water is also important. A large concrete dam is the focus of the center of the layout. A Sylvan Models large lake freighter, tugs, small boats, and piers have already been completed, The final dock and harbor scene should be far along by convention time. A traditional DC transformer runs the trains, and a home made sound system provides background railroad sounds.
